Guillaume Apollinaire Apollinaire was the pre-eminent poet and art critic of Paris' early 20th century. Wounded and trepanned in WW I, he died of Spanish influenza on the day of the Armistice. His books include Alcools, La Femme Assise, L'Enchanteur Pourrissant, and Calligrammes.
