Michel Deguy

Born in Paris in 1930, Deguy is professor emeritus at the Université de Paris VIII. He served as President of the Collège International de Philosophie from 1989 to 1992, and has directed the Maison des Écrivains and the Centre International de Poésie de Marseille. He is the founding editor of the journal PO&SIE (1977-present) and an editorial board member of Les Temps Modernes (founded in 1945 by Jean-Paul Sartre & Simone de Beauvoir). Deguy received the Prix Mallarmé for Gisants and in 1989 was awarded the Grand Prix National de Poésie.

The original French versions of these poems were published in a 135-page volume by Les Éditions Gallimard (collection "nrf"), Paris, 1985.
