"Morphologies of Paradise" is from a manuscript called "My
Devotion" to be published as a Black Sparrow/David Godine book in
June 2003. Other recent books by Clayton Eshleman are: Companion Spider,
with a Foreword by Adrienne Rich, 2002; a co-translation of Aimé
Césaire's Notebook of a Return to the Native Land, 2001;
and a translation of Cesar Vallejo's Trilce,
2000 (all published by Wesleyan University Press). In 2003 Wesleyan will
bring out Eshleman's "Juniper Fuse: Upper Paleolithic Imagination
& the Construction of the Underworld," based on a research project
of twenty-five years. Eshleman is a professor in the English Department
at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.
